the way I’ve been aching
to feel for years
my idea of her was a distant theory
and only that; a theory
carefree, with a dash of sass
an ounce of innocence
in a pool of wisdom
the smile in her father
dancing across a sea of enemies
hope, faith in others
more importantly, myself
I’m finally lifting my chin
opening my eyes
looking forward
I can see the skylight
the snow stings the tops of my feet
you’re finally next to me
grabbing my hand
and I can feel everything
and only that; a theory
carefree, with a dash of sass
an ounce of innocence
in a pool of wisdom
the smile in her father
dancing across a sea of enemies
hope, faith in others
more importantly, myself
I’m finally lifting my chin
opening my eyes
looking forward
I can see the skylight
the snow stings the tops of my feet
you’re finally next to me
grabbing my hand
and I can feel everything
I can finally feel again
